How to change the background in ANSYS Workbench

I'm starting with an easy one that seems to be searched for quite a lot: How to change the background in ANSYS Workbench. I fully understand why this is asked. The default background ANSYS has chosen is a blue to white top to bottom gradient. While this may look quite nice on screen there are many reasons why you would want a different colour. Personally I create a lot of images from ANSYS for reports and I find when printed, the blue doesn't look as good. I think just plain white is clearer and looks more professional. Plain white also makes it easier to crop and move the image, legend, scale etc at a later date.

Here's how you get to the menu you need:

In the main project window at the top click Tools the select Options.

The following window should appear. The second option on the list to the left is Appearance.

Here is how the default options are set:

You can now change the colours to your desired settings. For example if you want to go for the ANSYS Classic look, change to a uniform black background and change the text colour to white.

For a printer friendly professional look, change the background to a uniform white and the text colour back to black.

There you go everything you need to change the background in ANSYS Workbench.

Welcome to FEA Pros

I've decided to start this blog to pass on some of the knowledge I have gained in the past 8 years of using ANSYS on a daily basis. I hope to be able to cover a lot of basics of practical FEA as well as useful how tos and tips on using ANSYS itself. If anyone has any particular questions leave them in the comments and I will hope to cover them in future blog posts.
